Manchester Family Photography FAQ

What kind of family photography do you do?

I specialise in documentary style family portraiture, with a hint of gentle direction. What this means is that I come to you and capture you and your family in a place where you feel comfortable. This could be at home, or outdoors at a favourite place that is special to you.

We thoroughly enjoyed our photoshoot with Elisabeth. She was very relaxed and patient with Gracie and Ben. Elisabeth’s manner, along with taking photos in a place where the children were comfortable, made for a fun couple of hours. The pictures are gorgeous and really capture the spirit of our children. I would definitely recommend Elisabeth as a family photographer.

What age range do you photograph?

The great thing about documentary style photography is that it works with any age range. If your child is a newborn, we can capture those special first weeks at home where there are lots of cuddles, sleeping and the excitement of a new addition to your family. If your child is sitting up then you might want to capture playtime at home, or messy play. With older children it could be an afternoon at the park, a birthday party, a shopping trip or anything along those lines - the choice is yours. I'm happy to discuss any ideas you may have - I love every shoot to be unique!

What can I expect?

I want your session with me to be as relaxed and fun as possible. My style is not about impersonal studio backgrounds and making people stand around in polished poses, but there are some simple methods I use to get great shots as well as capturing you candidly as we hang out at your home, or as we're shooting in your chosen location. I also look for interesting photo opportunities as they arise - this is what makes our time together lots of fun.

To begin, we'll have a consultation by email and phone to talk about your ideas and wishes. From clothing choices to props or themes, everything will be tailored to create a special event just for you and your family.

When I arrive, we'll spend some time having a chat and getting ready to start. I can help choose outfits and accessories as I know many clients appreciate some guidance in this area.

During the shoot, I take cues from you and your children and spot when you need a break, or when we need to move on and try something else. I've always found that kids enjoy my company and the hugs I get from my little clients at the end of a session tell me all I need to know!

My child doesn’t like camera flashes. How do you work?

No problem! I prefer to work with natural light when photographing outdoors. Of course, this is not always practical indoors, so I may use a small lighting setup when needed - but I will always explain what we'll be doing and it will be as minimal as possible.
